England’s control of the seas goes back a few centuries. The best example to date is the devastation inflicted on the invading Spanish Armada in 1588 during Queen Elisabeth l reign. 138 ships carrying 24,000 troops of the invincible Armada were sailing upwind towards the British channel when the British fleet led by Sir Francis Drake sailed out to meet them. 45 Spanish ships were sunk and 10,000 men were lost. The British ships had a favourable following wind and greater more accurate cannon fire power installed on ships designed to fight battles at sea which made the difference, whereas the Spanish didn’t. Rapsody Yachts’s latest is R110 with project design work carried out by Dykstra Naval Architect. This new motor yacht is half way between a lobster and a commuter sporting elegant flowing lines but the stern section recalls traditional runabouts. This R110 features a large stern area equipped for ideal “en plein air” living with two large bars, a Jacuzzi as well as sun pads galore while the interiors offer a generous owner’s suite, two guest cabins all with private bathroom. Sanlorenzo presents its new top of the range Steel line yacht, the biggest ever built at its yard, the Sanlorenzo 64Steel. 64 metres long and, as the name tells, built of steel, this Italian yard’s new superyacht has elegant lines, in harmony with the fleet’s other models, and an innovative interior. The Sanlorenzo 64Steel is currently under construction at the yard in La Spezia, where its 40 to 80 metre yachts in metal are made, and where there are also two 460 Explorers and two hulls for the new 52 metre 52Steel, in the yard which is also well equipped to carry out full-scale refits. Contest Yachts shipyard, internationally known yard for sailing yachts from 42’ to 72’ is about to take the plunge into the superyacht segment with a new blue water cruiser model measuring 84’ which has been scheduled for launching in 2018. Project design work has been carried out by German naval architects’ studioJudel/Vrolijk & Co. This studio’s work has focused on performance and speed, just as for the 67CS. It will be sporting a performing hull to compete in maxi yacht racing events but also to guarantee great sea keeping qualities and comfort while crossing oceans. ER Yacht Design studio from Canada has recently presented project design work for a 135 metre which recalls the elegant luxury ocean crossing liners of the 30’s and 40’s With its 135 metres of overall length and a beam of 19 this is Ivan ERdevicki’s largest design project to date. The bow rises ten metres from the surface, in addition to the lower ones there are another six decks. A real modern cruise ship where the owner has a dedicated deck, the top one all to himself. The layout there is made up of a suite, living room, dining area, galley, gym and pool outside. This deck can be shut off from the others accordingly and the pool can double as a helipad.
