Pershing has recently celebrated its 30th anniversary. In the course of the event the yard’s latest flag ship Pershing 140 was officially presented and is scheduled to hit the water by 2018. Gruppo Ferretti chose to build Pershing 140 in light alloys just like Riva yard’s Mythos by exploiting (another brand comprised in Gruppo Ferretti) CRN’s technology and know-how. Southern Wind shipyard has recently celebrated its 25th anniversary, and has been building large highly performing sailing yachts thanks to its proven building capacity, quality of build and prestige. For a long time my work focused on sailing and creating many different kinds of sailboats. Drawing and defining a sailboat requires a profound study of hull shapes, fluid mechanics and appendages, all with a permanent shift towards increased performance and improved behavior stimulated by competition. My predisposition and passion for this subject and for all types of boats allowed me to design all kinds of sailboats, ranging from 7m to 42m, and including the largest racing yacht in the world: the 42m Mari Cha IV. As cars are normally transported on appropriate car transporters, the same service is available for yachts even across continents. After all when a shipyard has to send one or more boats to his dealer who’s on the other side of the ocean he can’t simply deal with the delivery by sailing across, since it would reduce the value of the vessel (as it would have clocked many engine hours) with additional expenses for crew, fuel and more. They call them “shadow boats”, and they’re the latest gizmo in the world of superyachts. What we’re talking about is the “Yacht X Tender”, hence the abbreviation YXT, displacement support vessels between 20 and 36 metres long used as extra space for a mother ship, where to stow things like extra-large tenders and all those toys and gadgets that are a must for today’s superyacht. With a support vessel the owner can double the space available and can thus basically take anything he wants with him on holiday, including a favourite car or a helicopter. MONDOMARINE LAUNCHES IPANEMA - Mondomarine’s Savona shipyard has launched “Ipanema” its 50 metre semi-displacing yacht project name: C22-04. Rapsody Yachts’s latest is R110 with project design work carried out by Dykstra Naval Architect. This new motor yacht is half way between a lobster and a commuter sporting elegant flowing lines but the stern section recalls traditional runabouts. Contest Yachts shipyard, internationally known yard for sailing yachts from 42’ to 72’ is about to take the plunge into the superyacht segment with a new blue water cruiser model measuring 84’ which has been scheduled for launching in 2018. This new Sunreef Power 150 is the yard’s new flag ship, taking over from preceding models the Sunreef Power 90 and 115. The 150 catamaran sports four decks offering a total area of about 1,000 square metres of liveable space. Gianluca Caputi’s architects’ design studio will be presenting project EUR 43 by kind request of Eurocraft in Savona in course of the 56th edition of the International Boat Show in Genoa. We’re talking about a steel and aluminium motor yacht labelled “instant classic” for its design which joins tradition to a clearly underscored innovative design. In the wake of the success of the first two Vintage range yachts, both 42 metres long, build number F73 christened Magari, launched in 2011, and build number F75 named Libra, launched in 2013, Cantieri Codecasa delivered this larger 50 metre version in July 2015. This new Codecasa 50 Vintage, build number C121, named Gazzella, was, like its two smaller twin sisters, designed by the technical staff at Cantiere Codecasa in cooperation with a team of tried and tested architects, with the aim of striking the right balance between past and present. ME is the name given to a new generation scooter realised by a group of young entrepreneurs from north Italy. It is built in Sheet Moulding Compound or – SMC, meaning the whole frame is in resin composites that’s lightweight yet highly resistant and elastic. The overall weight including the battery is of 90 kg, about 40% less than the average weight of other electric scooters of competing brands. Thanks to its lightweight this scooter’s range is of approximately 90 kilometres when starting with fully charged batteries. ER Yacht Design studio from Canada has recently presented project design work for a 135 metre which recalls the elegant luxury ocean crossing liners of the 30’s and 40’s With its 135 metres of overall length and a beam of 19 this is Ivan ERdevicki’s largest design project to date. The bow rises ten metres from the surface, in addition to the lower ones there are another six decks. A real modern cruise ship where the owner has a dedicated deck, the top one all to himself. The layout there is made up of a suite, living room, dining area, galley, gym and pool outside. This deck can be shut off from the others accordingly and the pool can double as a helipad. Cantieri di Pisa was acquired by Mondomarine in 2015 and is back again with the first semi displacing Akhir 42S drawn up by Luca Dini for a Japanese client. This renowned Italian designer has successfully managed to re-interpret the timeless elegance which has distinguished Cantieri di Pisa yachts without over doing it. To maintain some of this glorious Italian brand’s styling and a link with the past Luca Dini did not do without the painted strips contouring the tinted cut glass panels which are repeated in the window like ports and the shape of the bow which recalls a shark’s snout, as well as a roll-bar which looks rather like a plane’s tail but on the new model it has been installed further forward to better protect the sun deck…

May last the eco friendly ship yard Arcadia Yachts delivered the first model of a new S version featuring a sky deck to a US owner. Tankoa Yachts has been, and is very busy building its 50 metre S501 for a French client who commissioned it In February 2015. Construction work began in May of the same year. Delivery has been scheduled for April 2017 and the yard is proceeding according to plan, in spite of the complexity of the project initialled by Francesco Paszkowski. Anyone who’s ended up with the wrong propeller will know how much it impairs a yacht’s performance: the boat won’t reach top speed, there’ll be unpleasant noise and vibrations, deeply affecting on board comfort and at times this vibrating can cause dangerous structural damage to the yacht. In the preceding issue of Superyacht we began to draw up the most determining parameters which affect a propeller’s performance such as the number of blades, diameter, pitch and the area which the blades develop (expressed as ratio between overall surface area of the blades themselves AE and the prop’s plate A0 ). Seabob is an absolute must have on board. It’s a synonym of guaranteed fun and source of great thrills. Seabob is produced in Germany by Cayago, ideally deployed to explore sea life, reefs or while snorkelling and limited diving but also to carry out maintenance work of the immersed parts of your yacht. This Mariner or “Marinaio” is all of twenty metres tall and weighs two tons: for this is the size of the latest bronze work carried out by Giampaolo Tavani dedicated to the renewed touristic port in San Vincenzo.
