During my recent visit to the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam in the Netherlands, what left an indelible impression was the Rem Koolhaas-designed wing. Entitled Stedelijk Base, it showcases art and design from 1880 to the present day, within an open space sectioned by slim steel screens. I marvelled at how influential works from the De Stijl movement were displayed (as pictured above), while in another corner, an array of Eames-designed chairs sat next to a Yves Klein painting in vivid blue.
Inspired by the exhibition’s unconventional spatial design, we have shortlisted beautiful homes around the world that successfully combine design with art.
