I borrow the title above from Hermès’ curatorial description of its 2025 Milan Design Week presentation. Titled What Makes the Object, and creatively directed by Charlotte Macaux Perelman and Alexis Fabry, it featured suspended monolithic volumes, their edges defined by the coloured glow of strategically placed LED strips. Entering the white-on-white space was akin to experiencing momentary snow blindness—and then, slowly, things revealed themselves.
