The topic of artificial intelligence, and its implications for the future of humanity, can be a polarizing one. Including when it comes to the arts. There is the camp of the highly concerned: Will ChatGPT replace us as creators and thinkers? There are the purists: AI should not be engaged in any aspect of the art-making process. Then there are the technophiles who have embraced AI, viewing it as collaborative tool rather than a threat. A feature about British artist Ben Ashton in this issue sparked a lively discussion about the use of AI in creating—even conceptualizing—art. Ashton, interested in exploring his own ambivalence (trepidation might be a better word) about AI, decided to meet it head-on. He built a private learning model and fed it hundreds of images of…

This spring, the National Museum of Women in the Arts celebrates its 40th anniversary with an exhibition highlighting the works of the artist collective known as the Guerrilla Girls. Self-described as “the conscience of the art world,” the feminist-activist group Guerrilla Girls burst into the art world in 1985 with bold text- and graphic-based prints denouncing discrimination. On view from April 12 through September 28, 2025, Guerrilla Girls: Making Trouble showcases more than 30 iconic prints and objects from 1985 through 2007. The show draws from NMWA’s deep holdings of work by the Guerrilla Girls, presenting a visual timeline of the group’s progress and ever-expanding subject matter.…
Currently on view at GR Gallery in New York City, Neon Dust features new works by Chino Amobi, Jebila Okongwu, Juan Cuéllar Costa and Lim Kaye. A total of 16 paintings, including works on canvas and on paper, will dive into the apprehension of dystopian and cyberpunk imagery, which feel increasingly realistic with the latest development of AI technology. “Through their sharp observations, GR Gallery seeks to highlight the dual nature of technological development and examines the impact of automated futurism on contemporary art, particularly as science advances in diverse directions,” according to the gallery. The show will remain on view through April 19.…

The exhibition includes paintings created over the past four years and features Horizon Blocks, a series of rearrangeable painted wooden boxes that reflect the shifting coastal landscape. Where Sea Meets Sky will hang through May 18.…
