After the excitement of seeing the latest models at Caravan Salon Düsseldorf, it feels like the Motorhome & Caravan Show at the NEC, Birmingham, is just around the corner − both in time and location! Of course, if you weren’t lucky enough to pop over to Germany, this is the first chance most folk get to inspect the new-season ’vans. Not only that, but this year you’ll get to see the facelifted Sevel base vehicles (Fiat Ducato, Peugeot Boxer, Citroën Relay/Jumper) that underpin so many popular motorhomes. And in the campervan sector, it’ll be your first opportunity to compare conversions on the all-new Ford Transit Custom. We’ll be there, of course, judging the Motorhome Awards and Campervan Awards for 2025, which will no doubt be as hard-fought as ever. In…
After months of teasers, Volkswagen has finally given the new Transporter its world premiere at the IAA Transportation show in Hannover. Referred to as ‘Generation 7’ rather than ‘T7’, VW describes the new Transporter (and its Caravelle bus sister) as ‘better than ever in every way’ with more space, more payload, more maximum trailer weight and a ‘professional cockpit landscape’. What it doesn’t say, of course, is that the new van is a close relative of the Ford Transit Custom, although we can now see that the VW has its own look. Under the bonnet, you can choose from efficient turbo-diesels with front-wheel or all-wheel drive, as well as plug-in hybrids and all-electric drive for the first time. The vans’ design is described as ‘refreshingly new’ but following ‘the style…
Adria Compact Max There are remarkably few coachbuilt motorhomes based on the Volkswagen Crafter or its sister van, the MAN TGE. That’s a shame because these sophisticated LCVs are our favourites from behind the wheel – and their cabs have just been updated for 2025 with bigger sat-nav screens and more spec. So, Adria’s Compact Max is a welcome addition to the Slovenian brand’s portfolio. It comes with a choice of lengths and layouts, of which the 7.25m DL may be the pick as it has an open-plan side sofa lounge (along with rear single beds). All three models are slimline, at 2.17m wide. Bailey Adamo It’s been with us for four seasons, so now it’s time for Bailey to refresh its top-selling Adamo range. The layouts are carried over,…
EXPEDITION is Auto-Trail’s entry-level range, encompassing both campervans (since 2021) and coachbuilts (from 2022). The former launched with an incredible £36,995 price tag, which now seems like a distant (scarcely believable) memory – in a post-Covid, post-Brexit world, the most affordable Auto-Trail camper is now £52,516 (still rather less than most rivals). You’ll need a few grand more for the largest panel van model, the 68, which is shown here in 2025-season guise on the latest Series 10 Fiat Ducato. The standard colour is now white (rather than the previous Expedition Grey), with Artense Grey offered as a £780 option. Alloy wheels are now standard, while the caravan-style habitation windows sit proud of the body. This is the only extra-long (6.36m) model in the Expedition campervan line-up but its real…
SKYLINE is a new special edition from Bürstner, with a single motorhome and two campervans in the UK line-up (more layouts are offered on the Continent but those don’t come here as they’re not compatible with having an oven). Based on the Lyseo Time, the SkyLine motorhome that you’ll find in right-hand drive form is the T 690 G, a 6.98m low-profile (hence ‘T’ representing the German term) built on the latest Fiat low-frame chassis and featuring a single bed layout. The ‘G’ means it has a garage, too. You’ll spot the SkyLine immediately, thanks to its Lanzarote Grey cab and special red and grey graphics, while framed habitation windows that sit flush with the bodywork, a Premium XL habitation door (with central locking and flyscreen), front fog lamps and…
THERE are two new Ford Custom conversions under the Dreamer umbrella but they are very different designs and even built in different factories. While the latest long-wheelbase Cap Land has a shower and toilet and is built in France, the simpler, more conventional City Camp is converted at Westfalia’s plant in Germany (where it also makes the sister-model Club Joker Urban under its own branding). And this isn’t strictly in the Dreamer range but an entirely separate offering under the title ‘City by Dreamer’. It’s the first model to sit under this brand, which has its own dealer network (see panel over the page). Along with the Panama P12 from Marquis Leisure, the Swift Monza and Landseer’s latest campervan, this is one of the first conversions on the UK market…
