It was great to see the buzz surrounding all the new campervans and motorhomes at the NEC, with interest in everything from pop-top campervans to Morelo liners on each of the days I visited. Clearly, despite all the troubles around the world and gloomy news (or maybe even because of all that!), there are still lots of folk out there wanting to hit the road in their very own ’van. I was thrilled to meet so many people who were on that journey, as well as those seeking to update or upgrade their wheels. A big thank you to all those who shook my hand and exchanged kind words about the advice we give and especially our YouTube channel, which now has almost 95,000 subscribers. If you can spread the…
IT started as a concept in 2019 and then Hymer’s Venture S appeared as a production model at the 2022 Caravan Salon Düsseldorf. It immediately grabbed our Motorhome of the Year title for 2023 and still attracts gawps and stares wherever it appears. It remains a one-of-akind. Or does it? Here, from Hymer’s budget brand, Carado, is a brand-new campervan that has a similar rear lounge floorplan and that same concept of a built-in staircase – yes, real stairs – to an upper double bedroom. OK, it’s not a coachbuilt motorhome, nor is it a Mercedes Sprinter, and it doesn’t have four wheel drive – instead, this is a modest Fiat Ducato panel van, but the Off-Road Pack seen here (with 18in black alloys shod with M+S tyres, plus a…
CHAUSSON’S ‘S’ range offers Ford Transit based low-profile motorhomes with a fixed bed and garage in a near-panel van overall width of just 2.10m. The layouts up until now have been European classics with a half dinette lounge. The new S614 keeps that slimline size but offers a more inviting, more spacious Smart Lounge with side settees (convertible into forward-facing for travel) and is the first four berth in the range, as it also has an electric drop down bed. Like its sister models it comes in First Line spec (all-white exterior) or Sport Line (£2,500 extra). However, while the 2026-season Sport Lines still have the Grey Matter cab, the habitation body is no longer in a matching colour and reverts to white (shame). What you do get with a Sport…
THE big news at Elddis this season is its new Zip System construction method for all of its coachbuilt motorhomes, from the entry-level Whirlwind GT to the Avalon and Buccaneer. This features a fully bonded, marinegrade aluminium construction for superior strength and stability, as well as enhanced water ingress protection. It comes with a GRP skin underneath the floor and Sunsation high-gloss side walls. There’s a supersized new overcab sunroof, too – designed to have the same frameless appearance as an iPhone! Meanwhile, the range has been expanded to include Whirlwind GT, Whirlwind GT Evolve and Autoquest Apex, all with the same layouts but differences in décor and spec. Choose the 194 model shown here and prices range from £66,195 to £78,695, so it’s worth comparing the kit levels closely.…
LAUNCHED at Newcastle racecourse, UK manufacturer, Elddis, has come galloping out of the gates with its new budget campervan range. And with a starting price of under £58,000 and three models available – 5.4m, 6m and 6.4m – you don’t need to be the Aga Khan to snap up one of these Peugeot Boxer based campers. This is very much an entry-level model, but it does offer a choice of standard fixed high-top or a pop-top on top, and the spec sheet doesn’t feel too budget. While some manufacturers have a lengthy (and occasionally baffling) list of optional extras, Elddis has kept it simple. You’ll have to pay extra for an automatic gearbox (£3,246) or that pop top (£5,499), but otherwise it’s a case of ‘what you see is what you…
ETRUSCO is an entry-level Italian brand, part of the Erwin Hymer Group. It has offered overcab coachbuilts for a while but has redesigned the range for the coming year, with the addition of two brand-new models. There’s a thoroughly conventional layout with a pullman dinette and transverse double bed at the rear (the A 6.9 DB), plus this A 6.9 SB with a more unusual format for an overcab motorhome We previewed the Iconic Line Edition, which adds an extra specification package. The standard model has a black unpainted bumper and 15in steel wheels, but we’d expect most models destined for the UK to have the option pack fitted as it includes a colour-coded bumper and 16in alloys. The exception might be motorhomes acquired for rental fleets. Overcab motorhomes are…
