It’s been a long time since the world of motorhome base vehicles was this exciting. The new Ford Transit Custom is now starting to arrive in campervan form (see page 10) and, if the design of the cab is anything to go by, it should be a class-leader for car-like driver appeal. Not that it’ll take that title with ease; I’ve recently spent a week with the VW Multivan (basis for the forthcoming California camper) and it was a wrench to give it back. With a petrol/electric hybrid option on both vehicles, it’ll also be interesting to see how many buyers are ready to forsake diesel power. In the larger panel vans, it’s been even longer since we last saw anything really and truly new, but the Renault Master looks…
Stellantis, which includes Citroën, Fiat, Peugeot and Vauxhall brands (as well as Opel in Europe and RAM in the USA), has announced an unprecedented update across its full van line-up. Under the title of Stellantis Pro One, it aims to be the leader in the global commercial vehicle market. Whilst the changes encompass the whole LCV portfolio, including small vans such as the Citroën Berlingo and medium vans including the Vauxhall Vivaro, the news has the greatest impact for the leisure market with the Fiat Ducato and Peugeot Boxer. FIAT The new Series 10 Ducato will receive a new exterior design (above), new connectivity systems, next-generation ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems) and new engines. While there is also a new E-Ducato version with a 270bhp power unit and 110kWh battery,…
Adria reports a successful launch for its smallest model, the Active Duo, but says retail sales have been slower than anticipated due to the time of year. It has, therefore, revised the pricing of the model to stimulate demand. The base price of the camper is now £52,990, a reduction of £9,805. Furthermore, popular options have also been made more affordable, so, for example, metallic paint is now £435 (previously £1,040). If all the available options are specified, including the 150bhp engine and automatic transmission, the Active Duo is now £63,490 – a saving of £13,250. The second-generation VW Crafter, now a popular base for large campervans (including Volkswagen’s own Grand California), is to receive an extensive technical update comprising a new cockpit and new assistance systems. Pre-sales of the new Crafter are scheduled to start in April. A key feature of the 2024 Crafter will be the 10.3in (or optional 12.9in) infotainment display. It has been arranged to be visually free-standing and features a newly developed graphic interface and self-explanatory menu navigation, as was presented for the first time in the long-wheelbase ID Buzz. The display has been divided into two permanently visible touch bars and a home screen. On the left of the top bar on the display, there is a new direct access button, which enables the driver to open the main menu…
Renault has launched a completely new version of its Master van (big brother to the Trafic), which it calls the Aerovan. The new van is described as having a fresh new look and cutting-edge technology. It replaces a vehicle that can trace its roots back to 2010, while Master sales total more than three million since the name was introduced in 1980. Electric and diesel versions of the new Master will be available, while a hydrogen-powered model is planned for the future. Whatever fuel is used, though, the new Renault claims to be the most efficient van in its class, thanks to advanced aerodynamics. Customer deliveries are expected from September. The all-new Master’s distinctive front end includes Renault’s new logo and extra-large full-LED headlamps in the signature C-shaped array around…
