Beloved family drama Little House on the Prairie—which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year—was already halfway through its long, successful run when original cast members Michael Landon and Melissa Sue Anderson appeared with 23-year-old newcomer Linwood Boomer on TV GUIDE MAGAZINE’s July 14, 1979, cover. Inside was a profile of Boomer, who played Adam Kendall, the blind teacher who helped Anderson’s Mary Ingalls adapt when she lost her vision, and then became her husband. To prepare for his first professional role, Boomer reported that he visited a school for the blind to observe how students interacted with their environment. Eventually, he moved behind the scenes, creating his own acclaimed family series 20 years later—the wacky Fox comedy Malcolm in the Middle.…

Chi Flight The Chicago shows (Med, Fire and P.D.) continue to dominate Wednesday night broadcasts. The trio are NBC’s highest-rated entertainment shows for the season among total viewers and (along with Law & Order: SVU) those in the 18–49 demo. Golden Hour ABC hit it out of the park with its older-singles spinoff: 72-year-old Gerry Turner’s quest for love hooked audiences, and the finale was the most watched episode of the entire franchise since March 2020 when factoring in multiplatform viewing. Tracker-jack! Justin Hartley’s Tracker was TV’s top entertainment series and the first new show to hit the season’s No. 1 spot in more than 20 years. Supernatural fans have reason to rejoice. Beloved alum Jensen Ackles is returning to TV in a leading role, starring as LAPD officer Mark Meachum in Prime Video’s upcoming thriller series Countdown. Created by Derek Haas (Dick Wolf’s Chicago shows), it centers on Ackles’ Meachum, who is recruited to join a secret task force of undercover agents while helping to solve a suspicious murder — until something much more menacing comes into play. It’s up to Meachum and his team to save the city, but dedicated audiences know that for the actor, it’s all in a day’s work. More good news for viewers: Countdown received a 13-episode order, which means there’s lots of action to look forward to.…

Suits isn’t the only USA series whose resurgence in popularity has led to a revival: Years after its finale, crime drama White Collar is getting a second wind. Creator Jeff Eastin recently revealed that a rebooted version of the show (which aired from 2009 to 2014) is in the works, with most of the original cast set to reprise their roles. That includes Matt Bomer as charming con artist and criminal consultant Neal Caffrey, Tim DeKay as FBI Special Agent in Charge Peter Burke and Tiffani Thiessen as Burke’s wife, Elizabeth. One beloved cast member won’t be back. Sadly, Willie Garson, who played Neal’s partner-in-crime Mozzie, passed away in 2021. But Eastin promises that the reboot “honors Willie in a profound way.”…
