La La Land’s Big Win and Travel Ban Talk at DGAs
The Directors Guild of America Awards’ top honor, best feature film director, went to Damien Chazelle (3), who testified to his love of movies and touched on the Trump travel ban, which underscored much of the evening’s speeches at The Beverly Hilton. “I’ve learned from the movies of Asghar Farhadi,” said Chazelle in reference to the Iranian director who, because of the travel ban, will not attend the Oscars, though his film was nominated. Alejandro G. Inarritu, who presented the best feature directing award, which he won in 2015 and 2016, added, “As a filmmaker, as a Mexican, as a human being, I feel incredibly proud, honored and humbled to have been recognized by this inclusive and diverse guild.”…
