The all-new Hollywood Reporter offers unprecedented access to the people, studios, networks and agencies that create the magic in Hollywood. Published weekly, the oversized format includes exceptional photography and rich features.
In my six and a half years here, I have edited many a piece about executive change — comings, goings, firings and hirings. So when it came time to announce The Hollywood Reporter’s own news, it was with some of the natural apprehension about how such news can be received, interpreted and misinterpreted (inside and out). Luckily I had the best right hand to help manage the process in Matthew Belloni. And now, as you may have heard, Matt has been promoted to the role of editorial director of The Hollywood Reporter as of Feb. 6. (Applause!) During our interview together with The New York Times, Matt talked about something I said in 2010 when I started at The Hollywood Reporter that he had taken to heart: that none of…

Questions about the NFL’s ratings viability dissolved somewhat during the Feb. 5 Super Bowl, where the New England Patriots scored the winning touchdown in overtime. The game drew an average 113.7 million viewers — a turnaround from regular-season ratings but down slightly from 2016’s big game. “What we learned is that the NFL is, was and likely will remain the most important broadcast property in the U.S.,” says Marc Ganis, president of Chicago marketing firm Sportscorp. The season, hurt by weak matchups and the election, ended with the fifth-most-watched program in history — aided by a record 1.7 million average streaming viewers, up 21 percent from 2016. And the NFL already is working to ensure 2017 starts out on an optimistic note. Sources suggest improving game watchability will be a…
Box Office Broadcast TV Cable TV Billboard’s Top 10 Songs Migos snags No. 1 ahead of the Grammys “Snap Inc. is a camera company,” reads the first sentence of the mission statement in the IPO filing for Snapchat’s parent company. But a closer look at the 6-year-old app’s financials, which were made public for the first time Feb. 2, reveals a business more akin to a media company. As Snap prepares for a March debut on the New York Stock Exchange that may value the company at about $25 billion, its media ambitions are what could set it apart from such social media rivals as Twitter and Facebook. CEO Evan Spiegel has embraced the fact that Venice, Calif.-based Snap was built in Hollywood’s backyard, turning what started as a tool…
How Snap Compares to Tech’s Biggest IPOs Late Night’s Weekly Audience Since the Election As the nation goes, so goes late night. The broadcast ratings race suddenly is red hot again as the primary trio of hosts takes distinct approaches now that the 2016 election is a fading memory. And, for Stephen Colbert, his continued lean into politics is paying dividends. If Donald Trump’s first 100 days in office are good for anyone, it’s the frequently wonkish CBS host. His Late Show, the most aggressive in its coverage of Trump, has narrowed the once-sizable viewership gap with perennial leader Jimmy Fallon — prompting many to wonder how secure NBC’s No. 1 status will be during Trump’s presidency. Colbert virtually tied Fallon the week of the inauguration. And, in his first…
