I loved the quote from Joanna Lumley (The courage of her convictions, AWW, November) saying that as she’s grown older, she’s learned a little about courage. I will never forget my mother fighting cancer with quiet courage. One day I said to her, ‘Mum, you are so brave’, and she replied, ‘What choice do I have?’ But she made a choice to ask the nurses about the challenges they faced in their work, about their marriages and children, even their pets. Old age is a challenge, but we can face those challenges with strength of character.
