Just because something isn’t unexpected, it doesn’t mean it won’t cause a gut-wrenching shock when it happens. Such was the case when I heard the news that Olivia Newton-John had passed away. Not only was she an incredible talent, she was a wonderful human being who had a long and special bond with The Weekly. As two iconic Australians, The Weekly and Olivia’s relationship spanned over 30 years and she appeared on countless covers (see our favourites on page 23) as we shared her life’s ups and downs. During my six years at the helm of The Weekly, Olivia graced the cover three times. In briefIllustrious ART Yolngu woman Margaret Rarru Garrawurra’s ambitious Macassan Dhomala – a woven sail – has earned her the major prize in the Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards. The sail is rendered using a mixture of natural dyes to achieve deep red, black and yellow. “We were very happy. It makes us proud to get first prize,” she said. A rare white whale calf seen off the coast of NSW has been delighting whale watchers. She will need 300 litres of milk a day to make the trip back to Antarctic waters.…
