Doris Day remembered
WITH THE PASSING of the original American sweetheart, Doris Day, the world has lost a light, her friends said. Yet, the actress leaves behind a legacy of joy and compassion for the voiceless. The Calamity Jane star is best known for her musical talent and her comic timing in 1950s and ’60s classics opposite Rock Hudson and Cary Grant – her sunny persona entertained a generation. But later in life she devoted herself to animal rights. The CEO of the Doris Day Animal Foundation, Dr T. Robert Bashara, paid tribute to the late star, saying: “She was truly a voice for the voiceless among us, a bright and beautiful champion for the cause of animal welfare.”
