THE 2022 SEMA EVENT MARKED THE SECOND YEAR BACK AFTER THE SHOW’S 2020 HIATUS, AND BOY, THE ATMOSPHERE WAS FULL OF EXCITEMENT! Scott Harms is no exception; he was introduced to the scene by a friend. Back in 1992, Scott’s pal took him for a ride in a lowered Mazda truck, and Scott became instantly hooked. At that time, he owned a 1988 Ford Ranger. This was not a truck for his future plans; his dad sold the Ranger and they went to the Isuzu dealer and bought a 1993 Isuzu pickup. As with any classic-auto restoration shop, Johnny wanted to build something to showcase the shop’s capabilities, as well as build something that didn’t break the bank. The result is the beautiful 1959 Chevy Apache you see here. To start the project off in the right direction, the truck was completely disassembled down to the bare frame. Johnny wanted to ensure the factory frame was suitable for not only the big engine, but so that it also gave the truck the right stance. TIME FOR SOME TUNES! To catch you up, Project Playboy is our 1988 Chevy C1500 truck that we dragged out of a random Florida man’s backyard. The truck was forgotten and full of interesting items—including some old Playboy magazines, hence the name. The goal with this new OBS project is to restore an ’80s-model vehicle with an era-correct look and a few hidden, modern upgrades to make it more reliable. In previous issues, we replaced the original suspension with a complete coilover conversion from Ridetech suspension, thanks to the crew over at Saltworks Fab in Myakka, Florida.
