An official from the Independent Development Trust (IDT) was seen lying in bed without a shirt during a virtual meeting of a joint portfolio committee on Wednesday. The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure released a statement on Thursday apologising to the committee’s chairpersons and the public for the official’s conduct. TRANSPORT R1.1bn relief for taxi operators for Covid-19 TRANSPORT Minister Fikile Mbalula said the taxi industry would receive relief funding of R1.135 billion to help cushion the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic. Mbalula announced the relief yesterday following a meeting with the taxi industry. He said each taxi owner would be allocated R5000. The minister said it would be a once-off payment. “The R5000 per taxi is once-off.
