Welcome to FHM, ladies. Tell us a bit about this shoot. JACINTA: This shoot was such a vibe. Milk Beach in Sydney is one of my favourite hidden gems and it’s the perfect spot to capture that mix of fun and freedom. MEL: It’s iconic to us because we love the beach – it’s a cool, slightly secluded, spot where you can see both the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. The fruit was fun, too, as we’re into health, but we love having a bit of fun with all the different shapes and sizes. J:It was only natural to bring fruit into the shoot – I’m a Nutritionist, so food and wellness are a big part of my life, but I also love playing with the colour and cheekiness it…
The road to the iconic Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps is long and winding. Located southeast of the town of Spa in the eastern-most part of Belgium, the grand old track grazes the sleepy villages of Francorchamps, Stavelot and Malmedy as it snakes through the countryside. In late June, tens of thousands of endurance racing diehards from Turin to Tokyo make the pilgrimage along the quiet village backroads for the Crowdstrike 24 Hours of Spa race. Inside the circuit they find campgrounds, beer gardens, carnival rides (including the famous Ferris wheel) and an impressive concert stage. Then there’s the actual race. The 24 Hours of Spa celebrated its centenary last year and is widely considered the most prestigious GT3 race in the world. It is currently run as a points-earning round for…
When it came time for Ferrari to select a backdrop to unveil their brand new 296 GT3 Evo, the Italian marque naturally chose the most important event on the GT racing calendar. At the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, Ferrari has the largest and most impressive set up in the Spa paddock. The Prancing Horse erected an elaborate multi-storey hospitality centre that is less caravan and more spaceship. Ferrari sees customer racing as crucial to the health of their brand and closely follows all their cars’ performance in series across the world. The current 296 GT3 has won five titles, including Drivers’ and Team titles in the Pro class of the GT World Challenge Endurance Cup – the benchmark championship for GT3 cars – as well as victories at the Nürburgring 24…
Many lifters, especially the bullet-proof 20-somethings, associate any sort of stretching with skinny-fat cardio junkies or the patchouli-scented yoga scene, limiting them to the occasional biceps stretch in front of the mirror after a gruelling set of cable curls. Fortunately, momentum has started to swing back towards a more well-rounded approach, as more trainees realise that regular stretching can lead to bigger gains — heavier benches and stronger squats. Chances are you will have heard of mobility AND flexibility, both buzzwords that are thrown around the fitness world. However, many people mistakenly use these terms interchangeably and although flexibility is a component of mobility, mobility and flexibility are different. Very simply, flexibility is the ability of a muscle(s) to passively lengthen while mobility is the ability of a joint to…
PRE-WORKOUT: MOBILITY Choose dynamic forms of stretching before a workout as static variations have been shown to “sedate” muscles, which is the last thing that you want. Make these efficient by performing movements that engage the most amount of musculature possible, and only hold each position for 3-5 seconds. Top Tip There is, in fact, something called “The World’s Greatest Stretch”. Take a big step forward with your right leg and drop down into a low lunge position, right elbow towards the ground. From there, take your right arm and reach forwards and then circle it up towards the ceiling (bicep by ear) while twisting towards the right leg. Repeat on the other side. Complete 3-5 reps on each leg. THE WORKOUT: MOBILITY AND FLEXBILITY Weight training can improve both mobility and…
448 Epsom Road, Flemington, Melbourne, Victoria FLEMINGTON RACECOURSE Date opened: 1840 Capacity: 120,000 Run on the first Tuesday in November each year, the Melbourne Cup is well known as the race that stops a nation. That surprised no lesser man than famed American novelist Mark Twain, who visited Flemington Racecourse as part of a world tour and observed in 1895: ‘Nowhere in my travels have I encountered a festival of the people that had such a magnetic appeal to the whole nation. The Cup astonishes me.’ For more than 160 years Flemington Racecourse, on the banks of the Maribyrnong River, has become a mecca for sports-mad punters, seasoned fashionistas and the world thoroughbred community. Flemington and its signature race predate Australian Federation by a good 50 years, so is it…
