WORKING IN conjunction with JE Motorworks ARES will build 53 examples of its Defender. At the heart of their creation will be an extensively reworked Land Rover V8 mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Thanks to an increase in bore size, the engine now displaces 4748cc and develops 282 bhp and 325 lb-ft of torque. There is also a supercharged version based on a displacement of 4698 cc and has a whopping 475 bhp (torque TBD). Land Rover and Range Rover performance and styling specialist JE MotorWorks is to launch a new Defender range to celebrate 43 years in business. The ‘super-duper’ spec cars will based on a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine from Ford tuning company Roush, boasting 610 bhp and 516 lb ft of torque, and available in manual or automatic depending on the customer’s preference. While not everyone agrees on the direction that Gerry McGovern has taken the Land Rover brand, the Chief Design Officer has been named ‘Designer of the Year’ at the Festival Automobile International.
