RUN FOR LIFE Exercise is well known for boosting life expectancy, but running could be the most effective way to achieve this. Compared to non-runners, those who run tend to live about three years longer, even when controlled for slow or sporadic runners, and those who may drink, smoke or be overweight. Research by the Cooper Institute in Texas found that an hour of running extends life expectancy by seven hours. Study co-author Duck-chul Lee says improvements in life expectancy generally plateaued at about four hours of running per week, and the gains in life expectancy are capped at around three years.
