As 2023 is wrapping up we are so excited about all the great art headed our way in 2024, but first we’re closing out the year with a bang with one of our most popular issues! The December issue features our annual Collector’s Focus: Figurative Art and the Art Lovers Guide to Collecting Fine Art in Florida. With more than 20 pages dedicated to figurative art and Florida’s premier art destinations, we’re sure it’s going to spread a little sunshine around. December is a month poised between the past and the future. It is a time to look back over the previous year, celebrate our accomplishments and achievements, and also learn from the occasions when we could’ve done better. Hopefully, that’s what we bring into the year ahead—a renewed commitment to improvement, and building upon our successes of the past to reach even higher goals. Both personally and professionally, that’s where I find myself now. As I look back over the 2023 issues of American Art Collector, I’m so proud of what our small team pulls off every month. SELECT EAST New York-based gallery Garvey|Simon is hosting its eighth annual SELECT EAST 2023 exhibition. Chosen by gallery director Elizabeth K. Garvey, the exhibition features emerging and mid-career artists through its innovative Gallery Review Program. SELECT 2023 will have East and West iterations this year, creating opportunities for a wider demographic of artists. SELECT WEST will be held at Garvey|Simon’s Bay Area gallery. This year’s SELECT EAST artists are Kathleen Beausoleil, Martin Benson, Sarah Brenneman, Jaynie Crimmins, Beth Dary, Leslie Fry, Julie Peppito, Christine Romanell and Lynnette Therese Sauer. Ruth Fitton, a portrait and figurative artist based in Yorkshire, England, recently unveiled a remarkable portrait commissioned by the Merchant Taylors. The Merchant Taylors’ Company was originally an association of citizens formed in support of the craft of tailoring, but over the years members’ interest spread into commerce, philanthropy and education. Commissioned to celebrate Mrs. Jane Hall, the first female to be elected master of the organization since its founding in the 13th century, Fitton was one of four artists being considered to paint her portrait. Merchant Taylors discovered Fitton through the London gallery Fine Art Commissions where Mrs. Hall saw one of her portraits and fell in love with it.
