Welcome to the November issue of American Art Collector! If you can’t tell, I am still feeling the energy of a recent trip to New York City where I soaked up so much incredible art—from contemporary to historic. On the ground in one the world’s epicenters of art, I’m happy to report back that the pulse of contemporary realism is stronger and more vital than ever. My main purpose of traveling to New York was to attend Art on Paper, where more than 100 galleries convened to showcase a remarkable array of paper-based contemporary art. Experiments in Art On view through January 13, 2024, Leonardo/International Society for Arts + Sciences + Technology presents Experiments in Art, Access & Technology (E.A.A.T.), an exhibition premiering new work by artists Meesh Fradkin, Carmen Papalia, Josephine Sales, Andy Slater and Olivia Ting. The multidimensional installations were developed in Leonardo CripTech Incubator, a California-based art and technology fellowship that includes residencies, workshops and presentations where artists with disabilities can reimagine creative technologies through the lens of accessibility. The International Guild of Realism’s annual Fall Salon Online Exhibition will feature a massive variety of artwork in the realm of contemporary and classical realism—an astounding 204 juried artworks from more than 195 IGOR artists from around the globe. Many of these paintings will be for sale, and the entire show will available for viewing on the American Art Collector website, as well as IGOR’s website. Styles range from Trompe l’oeil and magic realism to contemporary realism and photorealism. At times, still life props might gather dust for years before inspiration strikes. This was the case for IGOR artist Ann Kraft Walker’s oil on linen still life, Coon Hunt. “[This painting] came together with some meaningful objects,” says Walker. “My son found the skull in the woods 20 years ago.…

The American Artists Professional League, known for representing some of the most prominent traditional and comporary realism artists working in the United States today, is gearing up for an exciting and special celebration this November. This year marks AAPL’s 95th year of connecting the public with the highest quality representational works through the organization’s annual Grand National Exhibition. Beginning November 6 and remaining on display through November 24, patrons will find approximately 100 juried entries on display in the Skylight Gallery at the Salmagundi Club in New York City. “Collectors and art enthusiasts will be able to view multiple genres, including landscape, still life and floral, figurative and portrait, and sculpture in various materials,” note AAPL representatives.
