Happy New Year! We can’t believe how fast 2021 has gone. While we are looking at 2021 in our rear-view mirror, we see 2022 as a significant and important year for American contemporary representational art and we are excited! Why? Because there is a surge of new collectors in 2021. Representational art is bigger and broader than ever. Adolfo and I have traveled across the U.S. this year to shows. It would be an understatement to say that collectors want to attend live gallery shows! They have learned to buy online, but the in-person experience is really what they are after. We write about this every month. We hear (you) our collectors, and we will continue to give you the art you have come to enjoy in your life. In…
One of the most exciting things for an art lover is being able to walk into a gallery and peruse all the paintings on the walls, spend time with the art and chat with the owners or directors. With the return of fine art fairs live and in person, our own backyards are getting bigger again. These fine art fairs are the chance to experience it all in one place, and often without even traveling outside your own city. In July 2021, the LA Art Show opened its doors for the first time in over a year. It was a successful event for many of the…

Black American Portraits Black American Portraits, presented by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, features approximately 150 works of Black American subjects, sitters and spaces over the course of the 19th century to present day. Countering a visual culture that often demonizes Blackness…these images center love, abundance, family, community and exuberance.” Contemporary artists in the exhibition include Njideka Akunyili Crosby, Amy Sherald, Otis Kwame Kye Quaicoe, Bisa Butler and more. Black American Portraits is currently on view through April 17.
