Once our new issue is released I grab an advanced copy of it, head to my favorite morning coffee spot, sit in the corner and go through it story by story, page by page. When I do this, I’m not looking for errors or things we could have done better. Instead, I’m trying to envision what a collector would think as they thumb through the new issue as it arrives at their home or if they pick it up at an art fair, a gallery or on the newsstands. I do this because this is what is at the core of this magazine. We love what we do and we love art and we want to show the best work that is being created each month in every single issue.…
Crossroads The Carnegie Museum of Art has announced recent collection acquisitions in contemporary art, decorative arts and photography. Joan Brown’s The Room, Part I, Alex Katz’ Vivien Baseball Cap and Pope.L’s Fountain (reparations version) will debut in the exhibition Crossroads: Carnegie Museum of Art’s Collection, 1945 to Now. Trailblazer The Fondation Louis Vuitton opens the highly anticipated exhibition Jean-Michel Basquiat, a landmark show of 120 works. On view October 3 through January 14, 2019, it is a comprehensive exhibition of work by the artist, including his first drawings and works that are rarely on view to the public. Several collaborations between Basquiat and Andy Warhol, previously unseen in Europe, will be included. The inaugural biennial series New England Now, at Shelburne Museum in Vermont, features artwork that depicts the evolving Northeastern landscape and challenges stereotypical notions of it being “stagnant and quaint.” On view from September 15 to January 13, the exhibition will “explore the striking human interventions of housing, factories and highways” in large to monumental sized paintings and photographs. He as a Foreign Service Officer and she with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the United Nations. They now live in Santa Fe, New Mexico, the City Different in the Land of Enchantment. Todd, who was living in a commune in California hitchhiked through Santa Fe in 1969 “the time of Easy Rider,” he notes.
