Faye from Ponteland, Northumberland, was on the search for a new horse in April 2015, following the sad loss of her retired childhood pony to colic.
“This left my other retired mare, Sky, desperately needing company,” said Faye. “I decided to try the RSPCA as I liked the idea of giving a home to a horse in need. I wanted a Thoroughbred or Warmbood type, but the centre didn’t have anything. However, I needed a companion, so staff suggested I foster a youngster short term.”
That’s when two-year-old filly Humbug caught Faye’s eye. She’d been found, aged nine months, tethered on a housing estate in Gateshead. By tracing Humbug’s chip, the RSPCA noted she’d been sold several times at markets before being dumped.
