For the gardener, it is a time of harvest, when the fruit filled “with ripeness to the core” may threaten to overwhelm – in the best possible way, of course. Much can be stored fresh, which is easy enough to do. Just ensure harvest takes place on a dry day. Onions are ready to reap once the leaves have started to yellow. They need to be completely dry before being stored, so leave to dry on the soil surface for a few days, then somewhere warm and dry till fully dry.
