THEY have very few worldly possessions left. He hasn’t even kept his Springbok blazers and jerseys – he gave them away with their furniture and other belongings before they moved out of their house, rented it out and bought a caravan.
“This is now our home,” says former Bok lock Rudi “Vleis” Visagie, pointing to the Gypsey Regal parked among tall trees in a caravan park near Nelspruit in Mpumalanga. “Everything we own is in here.”
“And that’s enough for us,” his wife, Frieda, adds.
Their lives have changed dramatically since he accidentally shot his daughter, Marlé, 11 years ago. He’d mistaken the 19-year-old for a car thief on their plot at Maggiesdal, Nelspruit, and she died from the gunshot wound (YOU, 10 June 2004).
