SCIENTISTS are stumped by hundreds of unexplained cases of severe hepatitis reported in children around the world. The first case occurred in Britain in early April but by the end of the month it had spread to several countries, including Japan, the US and Israel. At the time of going to print, the World Health Organisation (WHO) had recorded 200 cases. One child has died, and about 10% of cases required a liver transplant. The kids affected range in age from one month to 16 years old. Hepatitis is inflammation of the liver. When I met my second husband I knew he was disabled. He was diagnosed as having Moebius syndrome with unilateral (one-sided) facial paresis (paralysis of cranial nerves 3, 5 and 7). CONSUMERS can expect to pay more for energy following Russia’s decision to cut off gas supplies to European countries supporting Ukraine. According to Henning Gloystein, energy director at the Eurasia Group, Europe will try to source energy from other countries. “This means that gas buyers across the world as far away as Japan, China and South Korea will have to pay more for gas because Europeans are entering the market and driving up the price,” he explains. NETFLIX LOSES SUBSCRIBERS For the first time in 10 years, streaming service Netflix has lost subscribers. In the first quarter of the year, about 200 000 people worldwide cancelled their Netflix subscriptions. This resulted in the company’s share price dropping.
