APIECE of space debris that collided with the moon earlier this month could reveal more about the mysteries of the heavenly body. AGEING NATURALLY I just have to react to your article about former Miss South Africa Cindy Nell-Roberts (YOU, 24 February). In her beauty tips she says that she has once-a-month laser and peeling treatment. So much for ageing gracefully. This tells me she is not comfortable in her own (natural) skin and age. During apartheid, people of colour were not allowed to move freely without a passbook. Also known as a dompas, the passbook was similar to a passport but it contained additional information like the person’s name, fingerprints, photograph, personal details of employment and permission from the government to be in a particular part of the country. The Pass Laws Act, introduced in 1952, required all black, brown and Indian South Africans to always carry a passbook. It was used to control the movement and freedom of people of colour. AFTER more than a year at sea, a mini boat launched by school children in New Hampshire in the US has washed ashore in Norway. The little boat travelled thousands of kilometres across the Atlantic Ocean – much to everyone’s amazement. The vessel was built last year by a group of primary school kids for a science project. They used a boat kit from Educational Passages, a non-profit organisation that teaches kids about the ocean. The fibreglass boat had a GPS tracking system and the learners added photos, leaves, coins and a face mask with the signatures of everyone in class on it.
