Super enzyme can break down plastic fast

SCIENTISTS have created a new super enzyme that can degrade (break down) plastic bottles six times faster than existing recycling methods. This is good news for the environment because plastic pollution is a worldwide problem. Where does the enzyme come from? An enzyme is a biological substance emitted by a living organism which can cause chemical reactions. The scientists created the new super enzyme by combining two existing types of enzyme. Japanese researchers found the two enzymes in bacteria present in a rubbish dump. FLOODS, KENYA Heavy rains are causing flooding in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley. Thousands of people have been forced to evacuate their homes and two of the largest lakes are filling up. Under normal conditions, Lake Baringo and Lake Bogoria are usually 20km apart but the two lakes have swelled and are now only 13km apart.
