Knowing what products to use for your hair type is half the battle. You also need to know how often to condition, how to apply it and how to detangle correctly. Here we look at how to choose the right products for five main hair types – thick and full, curly, dry or damaged, thin and fine as well as colour-treated. If you can’t spoil yourself at a salon here’s how to do it at home. ○ Put about 25-50ml of oil in a cup and heat in the microwave for 15-30 seconds until warm but not hot. The amount of oil you use depends on the length and thickness of your hair. For short hair, you need about 25ml, medium requires 40ml and you need 50ml or more for long hair. Hair with low porosity has a tightly bound cuticle layer with overlapping scales that lie flat and don’t absorb moisture or products easily. High porosity hair has gaps and holes in the cuticles and absorbs moisture, but can’t retain it and is prone to frizzing and tangling. Medium porosity is slightly open cuticles and the ideal.
