The ruling outlawing corporal punishment (YOU, 10 October) deals with spanking but there are many other forms of violence that children are subjected to by their parents. These are emotional, psychological, financial and total parental neglect. In my many years of counselling children, I’ve come across several instances where parents bully their defenceless young children by screaming at them and instilling the worst form of fear into them for the most insignificant and bizarre reasons. Most children came to see me for symptoms such as bedwetting, nightmares, school refusal and a range of unexplainable symptoms, such as headaches, stomach cramps, anxiety and even depression. Yoghurt is one of the world’s oldest fermented dairy products – people have been making it since 5000 BC. Bacteria called yoghurt cultures are added to fresh milk to turn the lactose (milk sugars) into lactic acid.
