MY HEART feels so heavy as I write this. It’s hard not to feel sad, enraged, afraid and helpless in the face of the stories of violence against women that have emerged in recent weeks. I can’t add much more to the outraged voices we’ve already heard. So many who are smarter and wiser than me have spoken about what’s going wrong and what we can do to be better at not hurting the most vulnerable people in our society. Reading the article from Concerned (YOU Say, 15 August) reminds me of a similar incident. I’ve also been verbally abused when telling people to please not let their children stand on seats or sit in the front of the car. The last time it happened I said to the driver, “I hope you’ll never experience the heartache of your child going through the windscreen or worse.” For this I was told I’d be punched into next week if I didn’t shut my mouth and I was ordered to stop interfering.
