I RECENTLY attended the 21st birthday of the daughter of one of my cousins. I looked around the room at everyone who was there to celebrate with her and thought again how special an occasion it is. Her father was practically bursting with pride as he pointed out all the things he loved about his firstborn child and why he thought she’s so special. He told us of his dreams for her and as he spoke I thought of what’s still ahead for her. There’s so much hope, so much promise, so much to experience still. I totally agree with Puzzled (YOU Say, 25 July) regarding your article on recycling (YOU, 11 July). We’re constantly urged to recycle our plastic to avoid it landing up in the oceans and decimating marine life. But now the article reveals that despite the triangular recycling logo on plastics we shouldn’t take that to mean the item is in fact recyclable! To further muddy the waters we’re told not to mix soft plastics with hard plastics as the soft plastics are flimsy and clog up sorting equipment. So are we now to believe we must take only the hard plastic to the recycling drop-off point and throw the rest away with the normal trash? It’s all very confusing.
