I wish someone in our city would provide affordable medical assistance to those in need, as is being done in Westdene by walk-in doctor Paulo de Valdoleiros (YOU, 4 July). After we’d belonged to a medical aid for 45 years, circumstances beyond our control made it necessary for us to cancel it. And, oh boy, did multiple medical problems follow. Between my spouse and I, we suffer from cancer, type 1 diabetes, high blood pressure, osteoarthritis, chronic diarrhoea, insomnia and a peptic ulcer. A local doctor charges R600 for a consultation but a Sassa pension stretches only so far. How wonderful it would be if more people like Dr Paulo existed.
