I’VE had the privilege of assisting in a school tuck shop for several years. The most valuable moments are when we’re giving hugs and comfort to children whose hearts are sad. I wish the cries of those hearts could be heard by divorced parents at war with each other, competitive parents living vicariously through their children, and abusive parents. Innocent young spirits are crushed when the adults in their lives are so embroiled in their own issues that they fail to grasp the profound impact of their words and actions. Drake accuser resurfaces Canadian rapper DRAKE might have thought he’d settled his legal issues with LAQUANA MORRIS – who accused him of rape in February 2017 – but the Instagram model has now resurfaced with more details about the alleged incident. Despite accepting a settlement of $350 000 (then R4,3 million) and signing a watertight nondisclosure agreement, Laquana has given out more details about the alleged rape. MY FAVOURITE story in this week’s issue is the one about Dr Paulo de Valdoleiros, who says patients at his practice must pay only what they can afford (page 16). It’s not often you hear of someone who does something simply for the greater good and who has the kind of faith in humanity you don’t often come across these days. It’s not just that he trusts people will do the right thing. It’s that he knows they might not – but continues to take them in anyway, treating their every ailment. According to the department of labour: ■ The minimum wage for domestic workers is R15 an hour.
