I’m appalled reading the article about Gugu Keswa, the mother of Nelson Mandela’s great-grandson, who claims her five-year-old daughter’s living costs are R30 000 a month (YOU, 18 April). We’re a retired couple with a nine-year-old foster child and our living costs are less than R15 000 a month. We go without things such as DStv, the latest phones and expensive computer games but we have a fantastic life. Our son is happy, healthy and thriving; we go to the park and find lots of outdoor activities that don’t cost a lot.
