As the date for the 2019 elections draws near and the members of different parties flaunt their abilities to attract voters, I don’t see parties mentioning fighting for and protecting rights of taxpayers. Every party is fighting for free electricity and free education – do South Africans realise nothing is free in this country? Every service given “free” to the community is paid for by taxpayers. Taxpayers are the financial foundation of this country. Yet our homes are broken into and we’re hijacked and murdered. We, who pay the salaries of the police and the army, aren’t safe. We have to tolerate electricity and water shortages in spite of high tariffs due. Many of us have to live in filth and squalor because of nonexistent refuse removal services and people…

THE picture of the young mother and her newborn is one millions of mothers can relate to. An exhausted, somewhat bewildered-looking first-time mom holding a tiny baby so new her hospital armband is still on her wrist, the stub of her umbilical cord visible through the opening of her little jacket. Parents will also feel an affinity to the pictures that follow, documenting precious moments and magical milestones in a child’s progression from fragile infancy to sturdy toddlerhood.
