AIDAN GILMORE AND WASABI
Wherever nine-year-old-year-old Aidan Gilmore goes, Wasabi, his two-year-old pet Labrador, is never far behind. Aidan has tuberous sclerosis, a rare genetic disease that causes benign tumours to grow on the brain and other vital organs such as the kidneys, heart, eyes, lungs and skin. As a result of the condition, Aidan also suffers from autism and epilepsy.
“Although Aidan is nine, he has the brain capacity of a two-and-a-half-year-old and is nonverbal, so I’m Wasabi’s main handler” says his mom, Karen Brown (38). “But she goes everywhere with him.”
Wasabi is also a mainstay when Aidan has a seizure or meltdown. “She calms him by licking him and ensuring he’s fine.”
