I LOVE a good leftover, I must admit. When I was younger I often ate leftovers for breakfast (pizza was my fave). Yes, I know, I know – but I don’t do it anymore! I do still love to use leftover food in interesting ways though. Pasta is an especially great way to rustle up something delicious from the bits that were left over from the previous night. Add a bit of tomato here, a mushroom there and, my new favourite addition to pretty much everything, goat’s cheese. Unsurprisingly, I love our food feature on interesting ways to use leftovers (see page 26). ONE of the most popular ways to save for retirement is with a living annuity. In2016atotalof R333,2 billion went into annuities in South Africa, according to the Association for Savings and Investment South Africa (Asisa). I’M OKAY WITH GROWING OLD I READ with interest the extract about joyful ageing from the book by author Thomas Moore (YOU, 18 January). It made me think of a recent experience I had with ill health. Up until that time I’d been healthy and active. I played tennis and was fairly supple. Then I developed a chronic cough that lasted for six months and I found myself unable to do my previous physical activities. I was frustrated and impatient but it did make me realise how important good health is. When I finally recovered I thanked my lucky stars and I now have a totally different attitude towards ageing.
