EVERY time I go out I notice it – lying in gutters, bobbing in rivers, stuck in fences, washed up on beaches. Plastic: it’s everywhere. It has its uses of course but if we don’t do something about the amount of plastic we use and chuck away with seeming abandon we’ll be leaving a pitiful planet behind for future generations. I’ve been trying everything in my power to reduce the amount of plastic I use but it’s not easy – buy apples and they’re in plastic. Pick up a tray of meat and it’s in plastic. Open a new pack of cheese and you have to remove the plastic. Which is why we asked one of our reporters to keep a diary of how much plastic she used each day…
