The deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile were the latest in a slew of police violence against black civilians. In September 2013, Jonathan Ferrell (24) crashed his car and allegedly banged on the door of a nearby home to look for help. The owners called the police, who shot the unarmed Ferrell 10 times as he ran towards them. The police officer was charged with voluntary manslaughter but not convicted.
