A CELEBRATION WITH A DIFFERENCE TOO often one hears of underhanded and selfish acts in the community, so it was heartening to read in my local paper recently of a generous young Cape Town couple who hosted a carnival-themed party for underprivileged children on their own son’s first birthday. It was the needy children who received gifts, not the birthday boy. According to his mom, he’s “sufficiently blessed beyond measure”. The little ones at a home for abused, abandoned and orphaned children were thrilled to each receive a goodie bag filled with fun and educational toys, plus other gifts and essentials. It’s still unknown whether Marli van Breda will be called to testify at her brother’s trial. “There’s a court order forbidding the names of witnesses being published,” says Eric Ntabazalila, spokesman for the National Prosecuting Authority.
