The teacher asks her learners if any of them knows how to use the word “fascinate” in a sentence. Sally puts up her hand.
“My family went to my granddad’s farm,” she says, “and we all saw his pet sheep. It was fascinating.”
“That was good, Sally,” the teacher says, “but I wanted you to use the word ‘fascinate’, not ‘fascinating’.”
Jill raises her hand. “My family went on a picnic and I was fascinated,” she says.
“Well Jill, that was good,” the teacher says, “but I actually wanted you to use the word ‘fascinate’.”
Then little Johnny puts up his hand.
“My uncle has a shirt with 10 buttons,” he says, “but his tummy is so big he can only fasten eight.”
