Dutch superyacht specialist Royal Huisman launched its largest yacht to date, a 266ft (81m) three-masted schooner, in early January. Designed by Dykstra Naval Architects, ‘Project 400’, now named Sea Eagle II, has an interior by the UK’s Mark Whiteley. It is pictured leaving the shipyard in Vollenhove, The Netherlands, before the carbon Rondal Panamax rigs are installed in Amsterdam.
Sea Eagle II’s contemporary hull shape, featuring a prominent plumb bow, means it is slightly larger and more voluminous than Jim Clark’s Athena from 2004. Athena, also a three-masted Dykstra and Royal Huisman schooner, is 295ft (90m) LOA including bowsprit, but her hull length is 259ft (79m) and therefore slightly shorter than the new launch.
