A proposed change to tolls by Panama Canal Authority would see fees double for some private yachts transiting the canal from 1 January next year.
The current tariffs are $800 for yachts with an LOA of less than 50ft, $1,300 for 50-80ft, $2,000 for 80-100ft, and $3,200 for yachts over 100ft. Under the proposals, the fee for the smallest yachts will double to $1,600, although the rate applies to all yachts under 65ft. For 65-80ft the tariff will increase to $2,400, for 80-100ft is $3,500, and for 100ft upwards the new tariff will be $4,100.
