For the fifth time, skipper, founder, and managing director of Innovation Yachts, Norbert Sedlacek Koch, 61, is attempting to become the first sailor ever to sail around the world single-handed, non-stop, and without assistance through all five oceans.
The departure of project Ant-Arctic-Lab is set for 6 August from Les Sables d’Olonne and will cover a distance of at least 32,000 miles. The challenge will take around 200 days.
Koch is setting sail in a sustainable, recyclable and power self-sufficient yacht IY Open60AAL. He will sail from Les Sables d’Olonne north-west until west of the British Isles, then straight up north, arriving at the archipelago of Svalbard. He will then go higher in the Arctic, rounding Svalbard on around 80°N, before heading south passing west of Iceland, Azores and Cape…
