When Lynn Lucas lost her beloved son, Christopher, to a rare childhood cancer, she knew she had to do something – and has dedicated her life to raising more than £2.4m to fund research for a cure.
Over the past 25 years Lynn, 66, her husband, also called Lynn, 67, and their son David, 40, have organised numerous events in Christopher’s memory, including the annual 60-mile Great North Bike Ride, held every August. All the money raised goes directly to the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), which hopes to find new molecularly targeted drugs and get them into clinics, so other families don’t suffer the same heartbreaking loss of a loved one.
