Every year, in the 12 days before Christmas, Shelly Gill prepares for the festivities ahead – putting up the tree, decorating the house, buying and wrapping gifts for her children Theo, now six, Kieran, 31, and Arron, 33, and organising the food shop. ‘I love Christmas, and the preparations are a big part of it for me. When the light-up inflatable festive dinosaurs are up in the garden, it’s Christmas, we’re ready,’ says Shelly, 50, from Merseyside. ‘But for some reason, in 2022, I decided to start earlier, at the end of November, and it was a good job I did. I had no idea what was about to happen, but it was as if my body and brain knew what was coming.’
