‘We’re making the most of every day’
Rita Walsh, 74, is a retired catering assistant from Liverpool. She has two children, four grandchildren and one great-grandson, and is engaged to John O’Neill, 75, a retired businessman and author, who has three children and eight grandchildren.
I was with my husband John for 53 years before he died. We met when I was 16, I was engaged at 18, married at 19 and had my first baby at 21.
‘I thought my life was over’ John was diagnosed with cancer and given between three and six months to live. It was a terrible shock. When he died, my grandchildren, Mia, now 12, and William, 10, helped me through it, along with my daughter Shelly, 53, son John, 50, and my friends.…
