As Renee sampled my curry, I waited tentatively for her feedback. Neighbours and friends, we struggled to balance busy jobs with raising children, and bonded over a desire to do something of our own in a way that would contribute to a better world. Renee, 40, loved what I’d cooked and so, in November 2018, we launched DabbaDrop, a takeaway inspired by the Indian Dabbawalla tradition, where customers return stainless-steel tiffin carriers, or dabbas, each time they order. Within three months, we knew we’d never return to our old jobs.
